Steel Road Bikes
Steel used to be the standard in bike frames. It's cheap when compared to other materials, and easy to weld, roll and cast. Steel is bendable, which makes repairs easier than more fragile metals. Steel has the ability to absorb vibrations better than other metals. Steel's ability to absorb vibration energy will also sap a small amount of energy from each pedal stroke.
Steel is not as responsive as some of the stiffer metals. Steel will corrode or rust if not coated or painted. Some people coat their frames internally as well as externally to add life to their steel bike frames.
Weight can be an issue as steel frames are heavier than other materials, but you may want a steel frame for durability, shock absorption, and peace of mind due to it's excellent strength ratio.
